If Grace is an Ocean...

2 Corinthians 12:9

And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

God's grace is sufficient. It's abundant and overflowing. And it's all we will ever need. One of my favorite lines from a song says, "If grace is an ocean, we're all sinking." I don't know about you, but I desire to be sinking in an ocean of God's amazing grace. Not simply, sticking my feet in it to cool myself off. Not using my hands to drink it up to quest my thirst. Not using it to sail from one place to another. Not even just floating on top of it, waiting for the waves to carry me. Sinking! I want to be sinking in God's grace. Lord, please hear my prayer! Fill me up with Your grace, so that all I can do is sink into your ocean!

We Will Not Be Shaken!

Hebrews 12:28-29 tells us:

28Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29for our "God is a consuming fire."

Wow! So many thoughts come to mind with this passage. Mostly, it reminds me that ultimately, we belong to God's Kingdom, and God's Kingdom is all-powerful, almighty, strong, and completely unshakable... unlike the current "kingdom" we live in, which sometimes appears to be crumbling underneath us. But we know that God is still on His throne regardless of the "shakiness" of our world. So, what should our reaction be? Only to worship God acceptably with reverence and awe! Let me end with some song lyrics from Matt Redman.

We Will Not Be Shaken

When everything's breaking
You are left unshaken
When everything's tumbling down
You're the solid ground
Nations could be quaking
Economies failing
When fear is found all around
You're the solid ground

Our God, You are all that You say You are
You never change, You never fail, You never fade
Our God, You are faithful in all Your ways
Forever You stand, forever You reign, forever remain
And we shall not be shaken

We shall, we shall not be shaken
We shall, we shall not be shaken
When all around is sinking sand
For You are, You are never changing
You are, You are never changing
You will stand, the Great I Am

Have a wonderful day, knowing that God is still on his Throne!

Great is Thy Faithfulness!

Lamentations 3:22-23 says:

22 Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.

One of my favorite old hymns is "Great is Thy Faithfulness," so it's fitting that the scripture I came upon this morning seems to be what inspired this hymn written in 1923. Here is the first verse and chorus:

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Isn't it awesome to know that while the world continuously changes around us, maybe the people in our lives, society as a whole, our government, relationships, situations, jobs, etc... that the God of the Universe who has existed forever and always continues to remain the same... full of COMPASSION and MERCY. Thank You, Lord, for your continued faithfulness to Your children!

Strength to the Weary

Isaiah 40:29-31 says:

29 He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30 Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

To me, there are several key words in this passage of scripture. Strength, power, hope, renew, soar, run, walk! These are powerful promises given to us directly from God Himself. I would choose strength, power, and renewal over weariness, weakness, and tiredness any day. And yet, when I do not present my requests to God through prayer with thanksgiving (Phil 4:6), I am choosing weariness, weakness, and tiredness. Today, I choose to hope in the Lord, and I will wait for Him to give me strength, power, and renewal, and I will be ready when He calls me to soar on wings like eagles!
